Private Dance Instruction Process

Simple Steps to Dancing Success

Your first lesson starts with a conversation. We want to understand your goals, your timeline, and any concerns you might have. No judgment – just honest discussion about what you want to achieve.

Next, we’ll assess your current skill level. This isn’t a test; it’s simply so we can design lessons that work for you. Whether you’re a complete beginner or have some experience, we meet you where you are.

From there, we create a personalized lesson plan. For wedding couples, this might include choosing the right song, designing choreography that fits your style, and practicing until you feel completely comfortable. For social dancers, we’ll focus on the fundamentals that work across multiple dance styles.

Each lesson builds on the previous one. You’ll see steady progress week after week, and by the time you’re ready to perform – whether that’s at your wedding or just out for a fun evening – you’ll feel genuinely excited instead of nervous.

Everything You Need for Dance Success

Our dance classes in Hampton Bays cover all the essentials. Private lessons give you one-on-one attention from experienced instructors who specialize in working with adults. Group classes let you practice with other students and build confidence in a supportive environment.

For wedding couples, we offer custom choreography services. This isn’t just learning basic steps – we create routines that match your personality, your song choice, and your comfort level. Whether you want something simple and elegant or more elaborate like a full Dirty Dancing routine, we make it happen.

Hampton Bays couples particularly appreciate our flexible scheduling. We know you’re busy with wedding planning, work, and life. That’s why we offer evening and weekend appointments that work around your schedule. Many of our students come straight from their jobs in the area, change into comfortable shoes, and dive into their lessons.

We also provide ongoing support beyond your initial goals. Many wedding couples continue with social dance lessons after their big day, and we love seeing those relationships grow through dance.

How long does it take to learn a wedding first dance?

Most couples need 6-8 lessons to feel completely confident with their wedding first dance. This typically spans 6-10 weeks, depending on your schedule and the complexity of what you want to achieve.

For a simple, elegant routine, some couples are ready in just 4-5 lessons. If you want something more elaborate with dips, turns, or special moves, plan for 8-10 lessons. We always recommend starting at least 2-3 months before your wedding to avoid any last-minute stress.

The key is consistent practice between lessons. Couples who practice together at home for even 10-15 minutes a few times per week progress much faster than those who only practice during their scheduled lessons.

Absolutely not. Most of our students are complete beginners, and that’s exactly how we design our lessons. We specialize in working with people who have never danced before or feel nervous about dancing.

Your instructor will start with the absolute basics – how to hold each other, basic timing, and simple steps. Everything builds gradually from there. We’ve taught couples where one person has some experience and the other has none, and we’ve taught couples where both are starting from scratch.

What matters most is your willingness to learn and practice. If you can walk, you can learn to dance. The rest is just technique, timing, and confidence – all things we teach you step by step.

Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely. For women, avoid long skirts or dresses that might get in the way, and choose shoes with a smooth sole – flats or low heels work well. Sneakers can be too grippy and make turning difficult.

For men, comfortable pants or jeans are fine, and any shoe with a leather or smooth sole works well. Avoid sneakers for the same reason. If you don’t have appropriate shoes, we can recommend where to find them locally, or you can dance in socks on our studio floors.

The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and can move without restriction. Many students bring a change of shoes and keep their lesson shoes in their car. As you progress, you might want to invest in proper dance shoes, but they’re not necessary when you’re starting out.

Yes, we love working with your chosen song. In fact, we encourage couples to bring their wedding song to the first lesson so we can design choreography that matches the music perfectly.

We’ll analyze the tempo, the mood, and the structure of your song to create movements that feel natural with the music. Some songs work better for certain dance styles – a slow romantic ballad might call for a waltz or rumba, while something with more energy might work well for a swing or foxtrot.

If you haven’t chosen your song yet, we can help with that too. We’ll listen to your preferences and suggest songs that work well for dancing while still feeling meaningful to you. The goal is choreography that looks effortless and feels authentic to who you are as a couple.

Private lessons give you complete one-on-one attention from your instructor. This means faster progress, instruction tailored specifically to your needs, and the ability to work at your own pace. For wedding couples with a specific deadline, private lessons are usually the most efficient choice.

Group lessons are great for building confidence around other people and cost less per lesson. You’ll learn alongside other students, which some people find less intimidating than being the only student in the room. Group classes also give you more opportunities to practice with different partners.

Many students do a combination – private lessons to learn their specific choreography or work on particular challenges, and group classes to practice general social dancing skills. We can help you decide what combination makes the most sense for your goals and timeline.

Our lesson packages are designed to be affordable while providing the quality instruction you need to succeed. Private lessons typically range from $75-$100 per hour-long session, depending on the package size you choose. Larger packages offer better per-lesson pricing.

For wedding couples, we often recommend a 6-8 lesson package, which gives you everything you need for a confident first dance. Group classes are more affordable, typically $20-$25 per class. We also offer unlimited monthly packages for students who want to take multiple classes per week.

We’re happy to discuss package options that fit your budget and timeline. Many couples find that investing in professional instruction saves them stress and gives them confidence that’s worth far more than the lesson cost. We also offer payment plans to make lessons more manageable for your budget.
